Pictures Within Pictures

June 26th, 2010

My most recent series (completed September, 2010): Each image begins with an antique/vintage image and a setting is built around it.  Two of them (Travel Warning and Out of the Bottle) have been accepted for display by Visual Arts Nova Scotia during Halifax’s Nocturne event–a city-wide arts extravaganza held every October.

The Deserted Toyshop

May 22nd, 2010

My  series The Deserted Toyshop had its debut exhibition at Argyle Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia during the month of June.  Works not sold during the show are still with Argyle, so ask to see them when you drop in.  (They may also have a copy or two left of the book created for the exhibition, which features all of the works except for the early prototypes created last year.)

Arts writer Elissa Barnard wrote a review of the show in the provincial paper, The Chronicle Herald.

Fortune Seeking

February 26th, 2010

You are cautious in showing your true self to others.

My series Fortune Seeking, which received a creation grant from Nova Scotia’s Department of Culture and Heritage in 2009, is ready for posting here.  Many thanks to Nova Scotia’s grants to artists program.  I could not have undertaken this challenging of a project without their support.

UPDATE: Fortune Seeking will have its debut exhibition here in Nova Scotia at Acadia University Art Gallery in 2011.  Exhibition dates will be posted when they are confirmed.

Echo Chamber

January 27th, 2010

title page

I’m excited to announce that I am now collaborating on projects with Wanda Waterman, an award-winning poet, playwright and musician.  Our first finished work, Echo Chamber, (so named based on our method of working—she forwarded her poetry to me and I forwarded images to her until the series was complete), was juried into the annual international exhibition of artists’ books and multiples (ERI 4) at Eyelevel Gallery in Halifax in 2010.  We are currently at the earliest stages of work on our second book, which will be a series of short stories and poems based on traditional fairy tales, folk stories and urban legends.
